Like most parents we spent a long time thinking and debating the perfect name for our children. Jonah wasn't named until after he was born. We knew we loved the name we just continued to second guess ourselves until the very moment I saw his face and new the name was right. Abby didn't get her name until after many "vetoes" on both of our parts. Finally Kenny suggested Abigail and when I saw it meant "A Father's Joy" I knew it was meant to be. Many months of baby name books, suggestions from others (solicited and not) and we finally had our name. This was not the case with Kaylee. From the moment I found out I was pregnant, Kaylee's name was set. In fact, I remember telling Kenny, I'm pregnant and if it's a girl she'll be Kaylee Ann. Fortunately he liked it. Many babies are named after a family member or someone close, but we knew this baby was special and she was going to require three special names. And so, Kaylee is named after three different women in her life. Two she'll get to know as she grows as they continue to spoil her and one she'll meet on the other side of life, in Heaven. I thought I'd take some time on the blog to tell you a little bit about each.
So here goes...
THE NAME GAME EPISODE 1 : KAY
Kay is the middle name of Kaylee's paternal grandmother- Kenny's mom. I guess a little back story on how I met Kenny is in order. During a college acting class my senior year of college, I met a fellow student named John. John was one of those older students who was already married with kids, so he seemed a bit different from us, a bit wiser. One day in class we had an assignment to bring in a picture from our childhood and talk about what it represented. Unlike the rest of us, John didn't bring in a picture of himself as a child, instead he brought in a picture of a clown - Melody The Clown to be more precise. He told us that this picture actually represented his childhood. That clown was his mom and she always made life fun. She even named her house "The Happy House." At the time I remember thinking how neat it was and how cool it would be if my children someday would have a clown for a grandma. Well, turns out that John ended up introducing me to his brother Kenny and well, the rest is history. That clown is now, "Nana" and she still makes everything fun! When Kenny and I were dating, it was always interesting at The Happy House. Sometimes you would sit on the couch and a buzzer would go off, or we would get an impromptu Plate Spinning Show. I'm really grateful for John, the wise older college student for setting me up with his "little" brother and thus giving my children a clown for a grandmother. I hope Kaylee will take some traits of her Nana and find the lighter side of life. Just as long as she doesn't get in too much trouble at school for "clowning around!"
