The Name Game III (before II)

Moving on with the Name Game. I'm going to skip ahead to Kaylee's middle name - for reasons I'll explain on the next episode.

Kaylee gets her middle name from her Great Aunt Judy. (Judy likes to put the emphasis on the word GREAT!) Judy's middle name Anne seemed like a perfect fit for our Kaylee. However, we decided and with the namesake's approval, to drop the 'e' at the end of Anne. As three e's seem like quite a bit for one small little girl to handle. So, Ann it became!

We knew from pretty early on we wanted to name one of our children after Judy. Jonah was a boy, Abby has my mom's middle name, good thing we had a third!

Judy has always had a special place in the family. Birthdays, Graduations, surgeries, you name it... Judy was there. Many of my best memories somehow or another involve Judy. Some of my favorite times growing up were when I spent a week or so with my aunt and cousin Carrie. Just me! No brothers! Can you believe it? JUST ME! I got to see how the 'other side' lived! We would go places like whale watching, the park to feed ducks, and of course walk down to Disneyland! But mostly, it was quite! I LIKE quiet! With three brothers, I NEED quiet! I would stay alone while Carrie and Judy went to work/school and then when they came home I would talk their ears off! And they would have to listen, because it was...JUST ME! Needless to say, Judy has always held a special place with our family and now she holds a special place with my children. I still enjoy going up to visit her in the 'quiet house' with a warm fire in the fire place and a kitty cat running around somewhere. But mostly, I think I feel like Judy is a connection to the past. I guess in a weird way she sort of replaced my grandma to me. I never met my grandma, but I get the feeling this is how she would have been. A place I could go. Someone who would be there at life's events. Someone my children get excited about when we go visit. There really aren't many ways to say thank you to someone like that. I guess the best way I could is to pass her name down to another generation. I hope that is not the only thing passed down.

  1. Awwww ... thank you, Kelly. You are like a daughter to me (even if I'm like a grandma to you! Hahaha).

I'm very proud to have Kaylee bear my middle name as her middle name and really glad we talked your Mom into one less 'e.'

  3. Why do you have to make me cry all the time. And, just to be clear, I wanted the extra E!
